Sound side at Jockey’s Ridge State Park

Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune in the eastern United States. The dunes vary between 80 and 100 feet tall. They are adjacent to the Wright Brothers historical site, and representative of the dunes from which the brothers flew. Most geologists believe the dunes were formed when strong storms blew the offshore shoals on to the beaches then winds moved the sand further inland.
