It was rainy and cold the day we left home, Wednesday, September 3rd. We were actually enduring the remains of Hurricane Gustav. We were driving east, and of course the remains of the storm were moving east as well, so we drove in rain the entire day before stopping for the night in Memphis. One kind of interesting side note is that at one point we noted the wind direction shift, meaning we’d passed abeam the remains of the eye. Thank goodness, the weather was considerably better the next day, though we still were in rain for several hours after departing Memphis.
